i dunno ive played my hunters friend lvl 70 and i just know i cant live without that 3 second silence shot.specialy against warlocks oh and if u didnt noticed my build is a pvp dps one not for survival on instances or anything....altough i dont think it matters on hunters heh and i dont think +3 crit change and -4% dmg makes up for it if im going for a valance btw survival and dps then i would go for this www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/hunter/talents.html?0000000000000000000005500051005013050130003303532010300310000000 deterrence and counter attack seems more viable then 10% more health that in the end is like 500 or less more hp for a hunter and i dunno about you but i think every hunter should have entrapment and clever traps its saved my life on many instances unless ofcourse they are inmune to snares wich there prob not since blizzard dont care about many snares on instances excluding bosses but to stuck melee adds on fights its awesome specialy when it procs ...and it can prob more than 1 time on a fight. thos 5 second snares can prob like crazy. the ice trap will refresse you every 3 seconds as long as your walking on top of the frozen field thats why it can get many chances of procs puting slowing traps around casters can save their lives and a good upgraded ice trap and good trap timing can work as well as any cc heck we can even use emergency cc since we can put traps any time. this is posible the closes ill get for a hunter duty on instance dps and emergency cc.i dunno but if im wrong you can update me a bit heh like for chance i still dont know how snares are treated on high end bc instances.

Only drawback of that build is that soloing quests or PvE solo play is REALLY a pita. Pet can't keep aggro and is usually pretty dead if you get more than one mob and a resisted trap. I've tried this build on Onekra and it's a decent PvP build but I'm still not writing off BM.

to tell you the truth i havent had problems with my pvp build and my pet stays on passive most of the time. i just got used to kiting stuff trapping and using my scapism skills if things get 2 dicy.
that said is not a build for some 1 who likes to stand there auto shoot and let the pet do the work
entrapment never gets resisted the 25% proc might but the slowing effect will always get the targets
im used to geting 3+ mobs and killing em using scattershot and bolley with the frost trap....its trully magic
